Temper Tantrums: What Type Of Temper Tantrums Are You Dealing With?
MegaMom Definitions:
Temper tantrums come in two varieties: Type-One Tantrums and Type-Two Tantrums.
Type-One Tantrums: A Type-One Tantrum is simply a true expression of anger that has escalated to rage—maybe to the extreme—and possibly to the maximum. A Type-One Tantrum is anger out of control or nearly so. It can look and sound many different ways. It may be solely expressed in a verbal way by screaming, crying, or raging. Or it may be accompanied by creative physical enhancements such as breath holding, body stiffening, kicking, flailing, or even attacking.
Type-Two Tantrums: A Type-Two Tantrum is a combination of an expression of anger (which could be genuine, unexaggerated, exaggerated, or even totally fake) and a conscious or deliberate element of manipulation or intimidation. This is the kind of tantrum that post toddlers tend to throw (and in my case, my first two husbands). A Type-Two Tantrum may be precipitated when your child has been denied something, such as a new toy. She then, in conjunction with a show of real or faked anger, deliberately makes an attempt to manipulate, intimidate, or shame you into changing your mind.
Both types of tantrums are preventable and can be eliminated from your child's repertoire of behaviors. You can learn about the techniques that can help you do this in MegaMom's Wisdom for Tantrums: The Tantrum Book to Eliminate All Tantrums (The Secret to Total Prevention and Total Elimination of Temper Tantrums: Infant Anger Management.)
"My grandson was free of temper tantrums within two weeks after my daughter and I attended Leanna’s tantrum seminar. It works."
