Are ADHD Children More Prone To Temper Tantrums?
It has been estimated that approximately 35% of children with ADHD or ADD also have Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). ODD is said to be characterized by frequent temper tantrums, stubbornness, deceitfulness, lying, aggression, and stealing. Many parents of these children give up on them, in that they stop trying to be in charge of the child in the face of the constant defiance. It is believed that about 50% of children who have both of these disorders mature into adults who have antisocial personality disorder.
Temper Tantrums Are Optional, Even With ADHD Children
My twelfth child had ADHD and ODD since birth. I had successfully used my temper tantrum prevention techniques (Infant Anger Management) on this daughter since she was born, just like I had with my previous seven children. Throughout her childhood she exhibited every other common behavior of ODD children, except temper tantrums. She never threw one tantrum. As part of my Infant Anger Management program, I also insisted on remaining in charge of this daughter as much as I possibly could throughout her childhood, despite her constant efforts to be fully in charge of herself. I believe that parents can opt into the tantrum-free lifestyle even when raising ODD and ADHD children. It takes the right techniques (Infant Anger Management). This daughter is now 19, reasonably functional, and almost totally free of her ODD tendencies. She states, "I was an extremely defiant child, but all through the years my mother and I struggled over who was going to be in charge, I always loved how she responded to my anger."
